Sunset Landscape

This was probably the first Sunset painting I had ever done. I had a drawing of this city landscape from earlier and did a couple of different color schemes for it. From the Day, Night, Sunset color schemes, this one turned out the best. Photoshop, brush 132 set at 70% opacity. This idea comes out of my thoughts of a long lost civilization of strange castles, worn and standing the test of time. This is also one of my architecture types of choice, giving a simplified Gothic and crystalline feel.

Flaming Dragon

I had one of those moments working on a project where I had to get away from it and do something else. This is the product of that escape. Either I felt this way about the other project, or this is just truely what I would rather have done for that project. All 100% Photoshop from sketch to finish. It was a particular challenge to imply that he had flames coming out of his mouth and mane like a beard and flowing hair. If this guy were leading me through a dark path, I would be grateful. I would keep my distance though! Feel free to give me your honest thoughts and critiques, all are welcome.

The Great Tree

This piece began from a sketch that I did a while back. I looked through my sketchbook one day, and thought, wow, this could make a great digital image. For the concept, I wanted the tree-structure to look extremely distant and larger than life. It was like it stretched into the outer atmosphere as a space dock for ships, while allowing living space on the planet in the "form" of a tree. I enjoyed working with the way the atmosphere played with the tree-structure. Executed in Photoshop again. My usual brush combination at 70% opacity.

The Emerald City of OZ

I have always loved the story of the Wizard of OZ. I wanted to make the city huge and jutting up out of the landscape. I made the lighting warm to invite the viewer in against the vastness of the imposing city. The characters are engulfed in a world much bigger than them. I used the Nagel brush series to paint this piece in Photoshop. I took the 132 brush in series 10 and dual brushed it with the 144 at 70% opacity. Originally I had the idea to make a Wizard of OZ painting with a Frazetta feel.
